NEW PLAYER TRYOUT & LEAGUE DRAFT
The Boston Men's Baseball League Tryout is typically held the
first weekend in April across each age division. In most years,
hundreds of players attend and about half are selected. The draft
is one of the major factors that allows the league to grow at
it's rapid pace, while also helping teams to remain competitive.

1999 |
Site: Cleveland Circle, Brighton, MA
#1 Pick: Craig Vecharelli, Pirates Date:
April 11, 1999
In 1999, the MABL was to add two expansion teams: the Pirates
and Cubs. Even the managers were found on draft day at the
tryout ( Shayne Guiliano and Clarence Hill for the Pirates
and Shane Steffens and Michael Pietrasiewicz for the Cubs).
Since those teams were completely new as of that day, it was
agreed that each of these teams would have 10 draft selections
before other teams would begin picking. That season, the Cubs
battled the Pirates in the MABL Finals -- proving the strength
of the MABL Draft. |

Circle, Brighton, MA
#1 Pick: unknown
Date: unknown
The MABL Draft began in 1998 as a concept, and as the only
adult baseball league in Boston to hold an open tryout.
It was a huge success and led to 42 signings. |
